Auto Insurance

LOOKING FOR AUTO INSURANCE? YOU’VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE!

Just What is Auto Insurance Anyway?

Auto Insurance is coverage provided by an insurance company that protects you in the event of an unfortunate accident or other losses involving your vehicle. Typically, this sort of coverage will cover your property, any liability, and medical.

Some people opt for the minimum liability coverage required by law. In contrast, others choose to insure their vehicle with full coverage. In general, an auto insurance policy will protect you from the following:

Bodily Injury Liability

In the unfortunate event that the designated driver or policyholder is involved in an accident and is injured in the process, those injuries will be covered with the Bodily Injury Liability coverage. Additionally, if you have others listed on your policy and they drive any other vehicle with the owner’s permission, of course, they, too, will be covered under this coverage. You are required to have the state minimum coverage. However, if you were involved in a more serious accident or faced a lawsuit, the state minimum may not be enough. Having adequate coverage will protect you and your assets in the long run.

Medical Payments

While Bodily Injury coverage covers the designated driver or policyholder in the event of an injury, Medical payments will cover the driver and the passengers in the vehicle during the accident. In some cases, if adequately covered, you may be able to cover your medical costs, loss of wages, and even funeral costs if necessary.

Property Damage Liability

Property damage liability coverage covers the property damage. I’m sure you can tell from its name. If you or someone you’ve permitted to drive your vehicle damages someone else’s property, the cost to cure would fall under this coverage. Some examples would be damage to buildings, street lights, street signs, telephone poles, or any other structure that may have been damaged.

Collision

Unlike property damage coverage, collision coverage covers your vehicle if you are in an accident with another vehicle or struck an object/structure. Some may not know this, but collision coverage can also protect you against damage resulting from a pothole or if your vehicle is flipped over. When you sign up for this coverage, you must choose a comfortable deductible. You’ll want to choose a deductible that fits your personal situation. A higher deductible would be suitable if you are looking for lower premiums and can afford to cover a larger portion of your loss. Otherwise, if you prefer to cover the least amount of your loss possible but can afford higher premiums, then a lower deductible is a better option.

Comprehensive

Comprehensive coverage will cover you in cases where you were not involved in a “collision” accident. Meaning you did not strike anyone’s vehicle or property, nor did anyone strike you. Comprehensive coverage will cover you in the event of a fire, acts of God (hail, tornado, objects falling from the sky),  theft, and other situations where a collision did not occur. This coverage can also cover damage to your windshield.

Uninsured and Underinsured Motorist Coverage

While auto insurance is required by law, not everyone abides by it. This is the reason you need Uninsured Motorist Coverage. Suppose by chance you are involved in an accident with someone who doesn’t have insurance. In that case, uninsured motorist coverage will cover you, additional insured drivers, and anyone you permit to drive your vehicle. Additionally, if you are involved in a hit-and-run accident, this coverage will reimburse you for your losses. On the other hand, Underinsured Motorist Coverage will cover you if the person responsible for the accident doesn’t have enough coverage to cover the losses.
